Melford speak with Minister Graham Stuart, UK International Trade Minister, Apr 20
Melford Technologies Sales Director, Grant Smith, had an opportunity to speak (over MS Teams) with Minister Graham Stuart, UK International Trade Minister and Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness.
With over 80% of product being exported by Melford the Minister wished to discuss how this was currently being fulfilled in the current climate and how the staff had been affected.
The conversation focused on the Covid-19 impact and how Melford have met with the challenge to negate this by revising shift patterns (spread over 24 hours) and ensuring non-essential staff not involved in the production and manufacturing processes work from home.
Weekly Zoom meetings have been set up to keep the design, production and development teams working to ensure the order book has been fulfilled and pipeline activities are managed.
The Melford team have worked tirelessly over this period and have pulled together and embraced the new working hours and practices to allow safe working measures and ensure social distancing guidelines have been adhered to.
In addition, Minister Stuart discussed the programmes and services available to SME’s such as Melford and they include:
• UK Export Finance (UKEF)
• Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP)
• Trade Development Funds
• Market Selection Service
• Overseas Market Introduction Service
• Market Research Information
• GREAT campaign
• Export Award Schemes
The Minister congratulated Melford on becoming the International Trade and Exports Company of the year at the Bucks Business Awards in October 2019 and encouraged them to apply for the Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade later this year.
Melford are grateful for Minister Stuart’s time and hope to continue their longstanding relationship with the Department of International Trade for many years to come.
