Melfords Stamp of Approval From Major Postal Service Provider

Background

With a relationship spanning some 25 years, it’s safe to say that the team at Melford Technologies have established themselves as a trusted supplier for one, well-known European postal service.
It all started in 1999 when the state owned, national postal service had a requirement for a single multi-functional printer capable of delivering all their printing needs including stamps, labels, receipts and documents. As counter space was at a premium, they didn’t have room for two or three printers so needed one unit that could do everything. They searched the market and spoke to incumbent IT suppliers, but nothing existed.
Solution
Seeing this as a challenge a development team, led by Melford’s Business Development Director Steve Wilks, set to work designing a printing solution that met their exact and unique needs. “You could say the printer we created back in 1999 was a World first because there was nothing like it in the market. We designed a single unit comprising a thermal mechanism for labels (stamps) and a dot matrix element for printing receipts and pre-printed documents such as licenses and postal orders. It met their very specific requirements.”

Since solving this initial problem more than two decades ago Melford is proud to remain the preferred supplier of all the countertop technology to this major postal service provider. The touch screens, scanners, card readers, custom keyboards and signature pads from Melford keep the counter positions and points of sale running efficiently and serving customers every day.
Melford has just completed the third refresh of printers which are inkjet units nowadays. Although the printers continue to provide good service, the estate has been refreshed for the third time now to offer a new look, new technology and to avoid the problems of spares as the products reach 10 years of life. Melford continue to support the Counter technology equipment through every stage of its life.
Results
Introducing the latest inkjet technology has allowed the postal operation to deliver better services. With higher resolution and more accurate printing the agents can print more detail, more clearly onto forms with defined text fields. The improved quality, fast and silent printing also maintains efficiency in consumable costs for paper and ink.
25 years on and Melford continues to look for ways to ensure the counter technology is meeting their customers’ needs. From simple magnetic stripe readers to contactless card reader / writers and complex printer designs, Melford has retained the support, confidence and competitive edge demanded by the client.
